Attorney General Candidate Rob Teilhet Proposes Halloween Restrictions for Sex Offenders
Teilhet Says Offenders Should Be Required to Post “No Candy Here” Signs or Face Jail Time and $1,500 Fine

SMYRNA ,   Ga.     Today State Representative and Attorney General candidate Rob Teilhet announced that he will propose a bill requiring sex offenders in the state of Georgia   to post “No Candy Here” signs on Halloween.

“This law is aimed solely at protecting our children on Halloween.  This is already working in  Florida, Indiana and Maryland   and it is something we should be doing to protect our children in   Georgia,” said Representative Rob Teilhet.

Teilhet will propose legislation requiring the posted signs during the 2010 legislative session.    Teilhet's legislation requires sex offenders who violate this law to be punished with 60 days in jail and a $1,500 fine.

“This is an excellent tool for our police officers and our parents to use on a night when many of our children are out and vulnerable,” said Teilhet.    “As a parent, I want all children to steer clear of homes where sex offenders live.”

Rob Teilhet (pronounced tuh-lay) has represented Smyrna   and   Marietta   in the Georgia House of Representatives since his election in 2002 at the age of 28. He is the Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus and serves on the Judiciary, Education and Industrial Relations Committees. He is a partner in the   Marietta   law firm of Rogers, Strimban & Teilhet.

Teilhet says his campaign for Attorney General will focus on advocacy for crime victims,   consumer protection   and ethics in government.  Teilhet is widely known as the strongest voice in the General Assembly for protecting   Georgians   from rip-offs and con artists.  He has been a reliable supporter of law enforcement and crime victims as a member of the House Judiciary Committee .  Teilhet is also a champion for stronger ethics laws.    More information about his campaign for Attorney General can be found at his website,   www.robforgeorgia.com   .
