Hodges Opposes DNA Database Expansion, Supports Republican Budget
Hodges Launches First Negative Attack of the Campaign
Smyrna, GA -- While Representative Rob Teilhet worked yesterday to make Georgia safer by proposing an expansion of Georgia's DNA database, his primary opponent Ken Hodges attacked the measure and supported the 2010 Republican budget.
Teilhet announced legislation yesterday that will prevent crime, allow law enforcement to catch criminals faster, and exonerate the innocent. Teilhet's bill would require those arrested for a felony to submit a DNA sample.
In a statement provided to the media, Hodges attacked Teilhet's measure, firing the first official negative attack of the campaign season (Galloway, Jim, 1/25/10, ‘Getting Rough in the Democratic Primary for Attorney General', AJC). In his statement, Hodges opposed the law enforcement measure, and instead conveyed support for the 2010 Republican budget.
“Yesterday Ken Hodges came out against requiring DNA samples from every Georgian arrested for a felony, while coming out in favor of last year's Republican budget. Those are two key differences between me and Ken Hodges,” said Rob Teilhet.
The 2010 Republican budget supported by Hodges eliminated the homeowners tax relief grant and cut massive amounts from Georgia's education system—forcing Georgia's state employees and teachers into furloughs. This budget also drastically cut public safety, child welfare services, local health departments, domestic violence services, rape crisis centers, and programs protecting senior citizens from abuse and neglect.
The Republican's 2010 budget that Hodges supports abandoned those that most need public officials like Rob Teilhet to stand up for them—children, the elderly and victims of crime.
