Ken Hodges Goes Negative Six Weeks Out
First negative mail piece of the campaign season shows up in Southwest Atlanta—sans one important claimed endorsement

Smyrna, GA : Yesterday voters in the Southwest area of Atlanta called Rob Teilhet's campaign headquarters angry that his opponent, Ken Hodges, sent a negative mail piece to their homes. The piece is typical in style and design to any run-of-the-mill attack mail, showing a doctored-up, black and white photograph of Rob Teilhet looking just a bit fuzzy—the standard recipe campaigns use to make a nice guy look ominous. Of course the other side, featuring Hodges, is full-color and the images are crystal clear.

“It amuses me that Ken Hodges, a past-elected official himself, accuses Rob of being a ‘Politician,' and that he accuses Rob Teilhet of negative campaigning on one of the most blatant attempts at a hit piece that I have seen,” said Rebecca DeHart, spokeswoman for the Campaign. “However, the most interesting thing about the piece is not what is included in it, but what has been left out.”

Absent from his campaign's latest communication is his claim of Ambassador Andrew Young's endorsement. Last week, Ambassador Young told the AJC that he never intended to formally endorse Hodges—but that didn't stop their campaign from sending out a targeted mailer claiming his endorsement and showing his picture.

“Claiming endorsements he doesn't have, sending out negative mail six weeks out—I think someone's trying to change the subject,” said DeHart. “And who can blame him for trying? Ken Hodges has had a rough few weeks. First, it came out that he supported Saxby Chambliss against Max Cleland and Jim Martin, and then he said his favorite Supreme Court Justice of all time was Justice Scalia. Next the Georgia NAACP protested his campaign kick-off event and later he couldn't even answer questions about the Voting Rights Act—much less determine the existence of discrimination. He was caught fibbing about the support of Ambassador Young, and of course he's still a defendant in multiple lawsuits alleging both public and private misconduct.“

State Representative Rob Teilhet faces Hodges in the July 20 th Democratic primary for Attorney General.

Rob Teilhet has received endorsements from the IBEW Local 613 , law enforcement officer Marshal Greg Countryman of Muscogee County, former legislator and U.S. Senate candidate Jim Martin , powerful prosecutor DeKalb Solicitor General Robert James , Civil Rights Leaders Representative Tyrone Brooks and Elder Bill Harris , the Chairmen of the Legislative Black Caucus, Senator Emanuel Jones, eight Democratic State Senators , and over fifty current and former Democratic members of the House of Representatives .

Teilhet's campaign for Attorney General focuses on protecting Georgia's children, crime prevention, ethics in government, and consumer protection.  Teilhet is widely known as a champion in the General Assembly for protecting Georgians from rip-offs and con artists.  He has been a reliable supporter of law enforcement and crime victims as a member of the House Judiciary Committee.  Teilhet has also consistently fought for stronger ethics laws.

Rob Teilhet (pronounced tuh-lay) has represented Smyrna and Marietta in the Georgia House of Representatives since his election in 2002.  He is the Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus and serves on the Judiciary, Education, and Industrial Relations Committees.  He is a partner in the Marietta law firm of Rogers, Strimban & Teilhet.  More information about his campaign and other endorsements can be found at his website, www.robforgeorgia.com .
